we are in an era of gridlock politics, not due to serious debate between the parties, but because the goal of one party is gridlock, and the other party is too wimpy to break the gridlock

gridlock=inaction by the government=chaos?=less government?=no spending?=fewer/smaller govt programs =needy people suffering?=more self-reliance?
